Northwold Prodiction Garden

We finally got serious about getting the garden going down at the Northwold lot. We are leasing this lot from the City of Columbus and would like to grow rows of corn, lots of cucumbers, zucchinis and other vegetables. There is probably 8000 or so square ft. available for the garden. Today we worked on removing some of the sod with a sod cutter. Cutting sod was a tough project given the condition of the soil (clay and rocks) and how dry the weather has been. We did make good progress and also tilled some of the soil. We had a number of folks helping us out today - raking, cutting sod, moving grass and tilling.

THere is still alot of work that needs to be done on this site. We need to till the garden area several times. Also need to amend the soil some to break up the clay and help with drainage. Another action item will be to add nutrients back to the soil. We are getting a bit of a late start on this site, but we continue to push forward with the dream of filling this lot with fresh vegetables for the community and to supplement our other food pantries as needed.
