Harvesting at Epworth Veggie Garden

Finally, we have our first harvest of the year from Epworth Veggie Garden. We had hoped to have some lettuce a bit earlier in the season. It never fails when you make plans that things will change! We had announced that we would work in the garden this evening at 5PM, but of course we had the first rain we've seen in almost a week.

The garden was really muddy so we decided just to dart in the garden between showers and cut a little bit of lettuce. We could have cut a bunch more lettuce, but we will see how this batch of lettuce is distributed. We ended up with 7 - 1 gallon bags of "mixed lettuce". We have three different varieties in the mix. Red Sail, a type of Romaine and I'm not sure about the last type. Last year we had about 54 - 1 gallon bags of lettuce and we were not that focused on "production" at the time. This year we hope to have over 100 - 1 gallon bags of lettue to distribute at the food pantry at Epworth.
